Kristin: I just wanted to give you a call and ask how your Chattanooga trip was.

Susan: Oh, it was great. It was great. It was more fun than a barrel of monkeys.

Kristin: [laugh].

Susan: [laugh] You know, we took Ethan and be-, his being only eight, it was fun to watch him at different places and see him, y’know, enjoying the activities.

Kristin: Well, what all did you do?

Susan: Well, we decided to bypass the aquarium this time because he had just been to the Atlanta aquarium.

Kristin: Uh-huh.

Susan: So we kind of, uh, picked and chose and drew straws and decided that we would go, first of all, to Rock City. He loved that. And I’ll send you some pictures of that.

Kristin: Okay. Susan: And, now there was one place in Rock City that I didn’t particularly enjoy.

Kristin: What was that?

Susan: It’s called Fat Man’s Squeeze.

Kristin: Yeah.

Susan: And when I was there when I was ten years old, I thought that was a silly name because I slid right through.

Kristin: [laugh]

Susan: Now at age 64 and a few pounds heavier, I think somebody moved the mountain…

Kristin: [laugh]

Susan: …and made the hole thinner. Anyway, then Dad and Ethan went on the incline railway, straight up…Lookout Mountain…

Kristin: Oh, did he like that?

Susan: …overlooking Chattanooga. Y’know, he didn’t like it as well as Rock City.

Kristin: Huh.

Susan: He didn’t seem nearly as enthused about it, but Dad enjoyed it. Um, then, what did we do? We went somewhere else. We ate at Ryan’s.

Kristin: Mm-hm. He likes Ryan’s doesn’t he?

Susan: That was…oh yes. Loves it. And, he picked it. Because that, uh, Irish place, Dirty Nellie’s, was closed. They said it got busted several years ago for selling to minors or something. So, anyway, then we went to the motel, seems like we did something else.

Kristin: Did you go to any museums? Susan: Um, no…oh, we went to a sculpture garden overlooking the river. That was fun. And Ethan really enjoyed that. Beautiful views and, oh, I almost forgot. What I thought was the most fun thing… We went on a noon cruise down the river, and…

Kristin: Oh. Susan: …beautiful views and a good captain narrating, telling us what different things were and that was really fun.

Kristin: Yeah, I bet.

Susan: And, yeah. Then we went back to the motel that night and swam.

Kristin: Uh-huh.

Susan: And the next morning we got up, we met a guy from India in the little breakfast area. And he was really nice and…I doubt…

Kristin: Was he livin’ in Chattanooga?

Susan: No, he was there studying as a student.

Kristin: Oh.

Susan: And getting his eyes full of the [laugh] American culture.

Kristin: Uh-huh.

Susan: He, uh, he was really funny. And, and he wanted to exchange e-mails. Now I haven’t heard from him. And I’ve lost his. But hopefully I’ll hear from him if he didn’t lose mine. And then we went to the Children’s Museum and Ethan enjoyed that. It’s a hands on, kids…

Kristin: Oh, like an exploratory…

Susan: Right, kids type of… Kristin: Yeah.

Susan: …well it’s called the Children’s Museum. And, uh, he really enjoyed that. And he got to do a lot of things. Squirting water at people… And making things... And breaking things… And building things… And climbing things… And…[laugh]

Kristin: [laugh]

Susan: Yeah, he, he had a lot of fun there. And then we came home.

Kristin: Oh, it was, it was a really a short trip, huh?

Susan: It was a good trip. Oh yeah, just overnight. It was long enough for Dad and me.

Kristin: Yeah.

Susan: We were starting to… Our tails were starting to drag.

Kristin: [laugh]

Susan: [laugh]

Kristin: Well how was the weather?

Susan: Oh the weather was good. They said it was the most beautiful day all summer, the day we took the cruise. So we were very fortunate.

Kristin: Yeah.

Susan: Just right, not too hot, not too cool.

Kristin: Oh, that’s good.

Susan: Yes, yes it was wonderful. We were really lucky.

Kristin: Well, what was your favorite thing that you did?

Susan: Well, my favorite thing was the cruise.

Kristin: Oh, I guess you said…

Susan: I think Dad’s…

Kristin: …okay.

Susan: Yeah, I think Dad’s, maybe was the sculpture garden or the incline railway. And I think Ethan’s was probably the, uh, Rock City.

Kristin: Yeah, I can remember really likin’ Rock City when I was little and we went there.

Susan: Right. They had a, um, bird sanctuary there. They take birds that have been sick or hurt. And I’ll get on my soapbox for a minute… I think more places need to do that and take care of animals that need taking care of.

Kristin: Yeah, I agree.

Susan: But it was a great trip.

Kristin: Yeah, I’m glad you guys had a good time.

Susan: Yeah, I am too.

Kristin: Well, I’ve got some work I need to get done, so…

Susan: Oh…well it was nice talking to you.

Kristin: Yeah, nice talkin’ to you. I’ll give you a call back, um, later in the week. Susan: Soon? Kristin: Yeah.

Kristin: Eu só queria te ligar e perguntar como foi sua viagem para Chattanooga.

Susan: Bem, decidimos pular o aquário desta vez porque ele tinha acabado de ir ao aquário de Atlanta.

Susan: E, bem, houve um lugar em Rock City que eu não gostei muito.

Susan: E quando eu estava lá, quando tinha dez anos, achei que era um nome bobo porque passei direto.

Susan: …e fez o buraco ficar mais estreito. De qualquer forma, o papai e Ethan foram na ferrovia inclinada, subindo direto a … Lookout Mountain…
Kristin: Ah, ele gostou disso?
Susan: …com vista para Chattanooga. Sabe, ele não gostou tanto quanto de Rock City.
Kristin: Hmm.
Susan: Ele não parecia tão entusiasmado com isso, mas o papai gostou. Hum, então, o que fizemos? Fomos a outro lugar. Comemos no Ryan’s.
Kristin: Uhum. Ele gosta do Ryan’s, não é?
Susan: Isso foi…oh sim. Ama. E ele escolheu. Porque aquele lugar irlandês, Dirty Nellie’s, estava fechado. Disseram que foi fechado alguns anos atrás por vender álcool para menores ou algo assim. Então, de qualquer forma, fomos para o motel, parece que fizemos outra coisa.
Kristin: Vocês foram a algum museu?
Susan: Hum, não…oh, fomos a um jardim de esculturas com vista para o rio. Isso foi divertido. E Ethan realmente gostou disso. Vistas lindas e, ah, quase esqueci. O que eu achei mais divertido… Fizemos um cruzeiro ao meio-dia pelo rio, e…
Kristin: Ah.
Susan: …vistas lindas e um bom capitão narrando, nos contando o que eram diferentes coisas e isso foi realmente divertido.
Kristin: Sim, imagino.
Susan: E, sim. Então voltamos para o motel naquela noite e nadamos.
Kristin: Uhum.
Susan: E na manhã seguinte, acordamos, conhecemos um cara da Índia na pequena área de café da manhã. E ele era muito legal e… duvido…
Kristin: Ele estava morando em Chattanooga?
Susan: Não, ele estava lá como estudante.
Kristin: Ah.
Susan: E absorvendo a [risos] cultura americana.
Kristin: Uhum.
Susan: Ele, hum, ele era muito engraçado. E, e ele queria trocar e-mails. Agora não ouvi mais falar dele. E perdi o e-mail dele. Mas espero que eu tenha notícias dele, se ele não perdeu o meu. E então fomos ao Museu das Crianças e Ethan gostou disso. É um museu interativo, para crianças…
Kristin: Oh, tipo um exploratório…
Susan: Certo, tipo para crianças…
Kristin: Sim.
Susan: …bem, é chamado de Museu das Crianças. E, hum, ele realmente gostou disso. E ele pôde fazer muitas coisas. Espirrar água nas pessoas… E fazer coisas… E quebrar coisas… E construir coisas… E escalar coisas… E…[risos].
Kristin: [risos].
Susan: Sim, ele, ele se divertiu muito lá. E então voltamos para casa.
Kristin: Oh, foi uma viagem bem curta, né?
Susan: Foi uma boa viagem. Ah sim, só de uma noite. Foi tempo suficiente para o papai e para mim.
Kristin: Sim.
Susan: Estávamos começando a… Nossas energias estavam começando a acabar.

Kristin: E como estava o tempo?
Susan: Ah, o tempo estava bom. Disseram que foi o dia mais bonito de todo o verão, no dia em que fizemos o cruzeiro. Então tivemos muita sorte.
Kristin: Sim.
Susan: No ponto certo, nem muito quente, nem muito frio.
Kristin: Ah, isso é bom.
Susan: Sim, sim, foi maravilhoso. Tivemos muita sorte.
Kristin: Bem, qual foi a sua coisa favorita?
Susan: Bem, minha coisa favorita foi o cruzeiro.

Susan: Eu acho que a do papai…

Susan: Sim, eu acho que a do papai, talvez, foi o jardim de esculturas ou a ferrovia inclinada. E eu acho que a de Ethan foi provavelmente o, hum, Rock City.
Kristin: Sim, eu me lembro de gostar muito de Rock City quando era pequena e fomos lá.
Susan: Certo. Eles tinham, hum, um santuário de pássaros lá. Eles cuidam de pássaros que ficaram doentes ou feridos. E vou subir no meu palanque por um minuto… Acho que mais lugares deveriam fazer isso e cuidar dos animais que precisam de cuidados.
Kristin: Sim, concordo.
Susan: Mas foi uma ótima viagem.
Kristin: Sim, fico feliz que vocês tenham se divertido.
Susan: Sim, eu também.
Kristin: Bem, tenho algum trabalho que preciso terminar, então…
Susan: Ah…bem, foi bom falar com você.
