My day, my night

On weekdays

I get up early, have breakfast and take my son to school. Then I go to the gym. After that I go to work in a recording studio. I finish work at 6.00 p.m. and have dinner with my Family. We have two Young children, Jake and Phoebe, so we go to bed early.

Paul McCartney – the early years

This small house was the home of the McCartney Family. Downstairs, there’s a hall, a living room, a dining room and a kitchen. Upstairs, there are three bedrooms. Paul’s bedroom is the small room above the front door. There’s also a bathroom and a toilet. The Beatles wrote their first number one hit Love Me Do in the living room. The house is a museum now, and thousands of tourists visit each year.

This is the kitchen. There’s a washing machine, a sink and a cooker.

This is the living room. There’s a television – one of the first. There’s an armchair and a sofa. There’s also a lamp and an old carpet.

There are three small bedrooms. This is Paul’s bedroom. This is his bed and this is his chair.

This is the bathroom. There’s a bath, but there isn’t a shower. And this is the toilet.

The death of Princess Diana was a tragic event. On 6th September 1997, two and a half billion people watched her funeral on television. Prince William was fifteen years old, and Prince Harry was only twelve.

And finally, were you born when the first man landed on the Moon? On 20th July 1969 Neil Armstrong said the famous words, “That’s one small step for man, but one giant leap for mankind.” Five hundred million people watched the historic event on television.

Juan Sebastián Elcano was a Spanish explorer. He was born in 1476 in the north of Spain. In 1522 he completed the first voyage round the world.

In 1519 the king of Spain sent an expedition to find a route to the East. Ferdinand Magellan was the leader of the expedition, and he asked Elcano to go with him. They sailed from Spain with five ships.

Magellan died in the Philippines, but Elcano continued the voyage. In 1522 only one ship arrived back in Spain. 270 men started the voyage in 1519, but only 18 men returned.

I was born in a little house in a village near Dublin. It was a very small house – very small – and I had ten Brothers and sisters. My father was a farmer, and life was hard. My parents were very poor – they had no Money. When I was seven I went to school in the village. There was one class and one teacher – Mr. O’Sullivan. He was great!

I loved school and I loved books. I wanted to go to university and become a doctor. But then when I graduated from schools, I started work on the farm. I was sixteen. I got married when I was twenty. My husband, Cyril, was twenty-five.
