One of the first things I noticed in Valencia is that people eat out a lot. They spend a lot of time in cafes. You find people having breakfast or tea, not just lunch and dinner. People who work go out to have coffee, they don't have it in their office. In restaurants, one thing that really surprised me was that when people go out in big groups, the men all sit at one end of the table and the women at the other. Another thing I notice, maybe because I'm a woman myself, is what Spanish women are like, or Valencian women maybe. Of course, I'm a foreigner, but I find that the women here talk very fast and very loudly, much more than the men. Women dress very well, especially older women, and they always look immaculate! Finally, there's a myth that the Spanish don't work hard, but I don't think it's true, it's just that they work different hours. People have a long lunch break, but they leave work very late.

Uma das primeiras coisas que notei em Valência é que as pessoas comem muito fora. Eles passam muito tempo em cafés. Você encontra pessoas tomando café da manhã ou chá, não apenas almoçando e jantando. Quem trabalha sai para tomar café, não tomam no escritório. Nos restaurantes, uma coisa que realmente me surpreendeu foi que quando as pessoas saem em grandes grupos, os homens sentam-se todos em uma ponta da mesa e as mulheres na outra. Outra coisa que noto, talvez porque eu mesma sou mulher, é como são as mulheres espanholas, ou talvez as valencianas. Claro, sou estrangeira, mas acho que as mulheres aqui falam muito rápido e muito alto, muito mais do que os homens. As mulheres se vestem muito bem, principalmente as mais velhas, e estão sempre imaculadas! Finalmente, há um mito de que os espanhóis não trabalham duro, mas não acho que seja verdade, é só que eles trabalham em horários diferentes. As pessoas têm uma longa pausa para o almoço, mas saem do trabalho muito tarde.
