A man and woman went on vacation the Indian Ocean. One day, they went on a boat with twenty other people and went scuba diving. The boat stopped in the middle of the ocean, and everyone went diving. After an hour, everyone returned to the boat, and the boat went back to the port. But the man and the woman didn't returned to the boat. When they finish diving, there was no boat. At first, they shouted, but no one heard them. They waited and waited for the boat to return, but eventually they realized they were alone. Suddenly, something moved near them under the water. Two or three weeks later, a fisherman found their camera.

Grant's father became a local hero. Two or three weeks later, a local fisherman caught the shark and put it in the main square. Everyone came to see the monster, and took pictures of it. Many years later, when Grant saw the film Jaws, he relived the terrible experience.

Debra and Andrew Veal entered a 3,000-mile rowing race across the Atlantic from Tenerife to Barbados. There were thirty-four other rowing teams. They started the race together, but after two weeks Andrew left the race because he was scared of the ocean. Debra didn't want to stop the race, and she decided to continue. She rowed the remaining 2,290 miles alone. The journey took 113 days. Debra arrived in Barbados seventy days after the winning team, but for most people she was the hero of the race. The editor of The Times wrote, "The winner of the race is the girl who came last."

N: My hero is Debra Veal because she rowed across the Atlantic alone.

I: Alone? That's amazing! Why did she do it?

N: Well, she started a trans-Atlantic race with her husband, Andrew. But he left after two weeks. He was scared of the ocean.

I: I see. Was she angry when Andrew left?

N: No, she wasn't angry. She was relieved when he left. She just wanted him to be happy.

I: Was it difficult for Debra to continue the journey alone?

N: Yes, it was difficult for her to sleep. She was worried about big ships. Some ships are huge and she was in a very small boat.

I: Did she have any bad experiences?

N: Yes. She was scared of sharks. One night there was a very big shark under the boat, but it wasn't interested in her - it was only interested in eating the fish under the boat.

I: I understand that Debra finished the race seventy days after the winners. How did she feel about that? Was she embarrassed?

N: No, she wasn't embarrassed about it. She was just happy about finishing the race.

F: I don't know where to go on vacation this year. Where did you go for your last summer vacation?

My oldest friend is Brett. We first met at school - high school. We were fifteen or sixteen years old - I can't remember exactly. We became friends because we laugh at the same things. Brett is very funny. Now he's a doctor. He's married and he lives in London. I see him a few times a year. The last time I saw him was on his birthday. We went out for dinner. His wife and my girlfriend get along really well. My best memory of Brett is a vacation we took together in the USA. We were twenty-three, and it was the year we finished college. We drove from Chicago to Los Angeles. It was fantastic.
